Derrick´s Mega Deal

Derrick Rose lands potential $260M shoe deal.

When Derrick Rose signed a $94 million extension with the Bulls in December, he turned to his mom and said, “We finally made it.”
But things have gotten even better for the Bulls’ superstar with the report early Saturday that he had signed a 14-year, $260 million shoe deal with adidas.
The contract could be the second largest in the history of such endorsements, said csnchicago.com, which broke the story. That would be second only to Rose’s predecessor on the Bulls Michael Jordan.
Rose, who grew up in impoverished Englewood on the South Side, didn’t discuss the numbers Saturday morning in Orlando, where he is preparing to play in the NBA All-Star game Sunday night. But he said he was happy to have the deal done.

Foamsanity Hits Orlando

Everyone knew that the jawdropping Galaxy edition of the Nike Air Foamposite One would cause release hysteria. After being pulled from the NikeStore release roster earlier this week, the only chance of getting a pair was to get out there and take your chances at one of the select few retailer spots that would be carrying them. In NYC, scores of determined sneakerheads camped outside of stores in sleeping bags and lawn chairs for over a week to improve their Galaxy prospects. It was clear that this would be a blockbuster of a release, with the limited nature of the shoe, the current unquenchable thirst for Foamposites and of course the wild galactic theme, but the scene down at the Florida Mall in Orlando tonight just
raised
lowered the bar for sneaker release mayhem. From early reports from DJ Clark Kent and others on the scene, over 3,000 people showed up with the crowd getting so out of control that even the small army of cops in riot gear couldn’t handle the charging crowd trying to inch their way closer to their pair of Galaxy Foams, and there have even been reports of shots being fired. Around 10:30pm, well before the intended midnight release, police shut down the mall and sent the unruly mob home with no sneakers.
No word yet on how a rescheduled release will play out down in Orlando, but we’re sure we’ll hear plenty more stories from the Galaxy releases around the country by morning. We know that it’s easier said than done, but just maybe, it might be time for these retailers to start looking into putting some better systems in place to avoid these kinds of unfortunate situations. Or maybe Nike can just stop putting out shoes that people want so badly. Lets hope it’s the former and not the latter, but let us know what you think should be done to remedy the issue and stay tuned for more on the Galaxy Foamposite release saga.

When your number is called, be ready.

Jeremy Lin might not have been a household name a few weeks ago, but he was still in the gym. Still putting in time to be the best player that he could be because he believed. Through being undrafted and cut, and then sitting on the bench in New York, Lin believed he would get his opportunity to show that he belonged in the NBA. He did get that opportunity and when it arrived, he was ready. Basketball never stopped for Lin, even when the circumstances were not what he had hoped.

While a 6-foot-3 point guard from Harvard isn't the prototypical NBA player, when you boil it down, what matters isn't who you are, but what you can do. Thanks to his hard work ethic and commitment to getting better, Lin has proven he can do the things necessary to be an NBA point guard. In the past two weeks, he's shown he can be the starting point guard for a New York Knicks team that was desperate for stability.

Since Lin has taken over the reins at the one spot, the Knicks have won seven straight games. Lin is averaging 24.4 points and 9 assists per game over those seven victories. He's getting his teammates -all of them involved and he's changed the spirit of the team. He's gone from last man on the bench to playing under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden and his transition has been a smooth one because he was ready. Whether you're playing under bright lights with the biggest stars in the game or in a dimly-lit gym by yourself, play for the right reasons, train as though you're training for your big break and when it comes, you'll be ready.

New Pics from the Nike Dream Team Collection

The upcoming Nike Sportswear ‘Dream Team’ Collection is certainly the most fitting name for this set of sneaker releases, isn’t it? Aside from the direct reference to the 1992 Dream Team that took home the Gold medal in domination fashion, these four releases offer up the opportunity to cop some sneakers that we haven’t seen in a long while. The Nike Air Force 180 ‘Olympic’ returns once again, as does the Nike Air More Uptempo, that dropped in 2010 as a House of Hoops exclusive. Joining the two 90′s models is the Nike Shox BB4, made famous by Vince Carter’s complete demoralization of Frederic Weis and entire French National Team, and the Nike Zoom Huarache 2K4, that debuted during the ’04 Olympic year. We’ve got another look at the upcoming Nike Sportswear ‘Dream Team’ Collection after the jump so take a look and stick with Sneaker News for more release information as it develops.

Man Seeks Trade: Used Car For Galaxy Foamposites

Some sneakerheads have a strict policy when it comes to sneaker trades: brand new for brand new. But what if you throw in a very-near-deadstock…car? We already know about the massive camp-outs and Nikestore backing out of the Galaxy Foamposite online release, but based on this recent trade proposal made by a sneakerhead located in the five boroughs of New York City, we can sum up with this famous quote from Bad Boys II: #$%& just got real. With the Galaxy Foamposites proving to be one of the toughest pick-ups in recent memory (perhaps reaching that level of Pigeon SB Dunk pandemonium), it’s time to up the ante if a retail pick-up is no longer a viable option, but offering up a tangible good known for its miles-per-gallon might be stretching it a bit. What makes this trade proposal a bit more humorous is that the car’s overall appeal exudes that ‘Galaxy’ motif thanks to the purple paint job and blue Chevy logo, but here’s the real question – would you trade your Galaxy Foamposites for four wheels and a steering wheel? This is about as interesting of a debate we’ll ever see, so check out the full listing below and let us know your thoughts. via CL

Nike Lunar Hyperdunk 2012 – Officially Unveiled

Earlier today Sneaker News gave you a look at the Nike Lunar Hyperdunk 2012 in the Team USAB colorway of White, Obsidian, and Red. In accordance with this mass unveiling of upcoming sneakers, Nike Basketball has officially unveiled the Nike Lunar Hyperdunk 2012, accentuating the space-age design with this futuristic colorway of White and Neon Green tones. Since 2008, the Nike Hyperdunk has elevated performance basketball to new heights using Flywire as the pillar of the lightweight nature of the shoe, but the Lunar Hyperdunk 2012 expands on the Hyperdunk mantra by including an all-new basketball-specific LunarLon outsole with a new dynamic Flywire unit that stretches at key stress points and rests where the foot rests. Stabilizing the foot is the glass-reinforced composite mid-foot shank, while elevated forefoot outriggers provides the foot with security during hard cuts. Check out the detailed angles of the Nike Lunar Hyperdunk 2012 below and stick with Sneaker News for more on the Nike LunarLon Collection.

Nike Hyperdunk 2012

Four years ago, Nike unveiled a collection of gear for the Beijing Olympic Games that included the introduction of what’s become the Basketball division’s most successful non-signature release. We’re only six months away from the next Olympiad, so it’s time to start ramping up in a big way, which means revealing the next chapter in this saga of modern engineering triumphing over the forces of physics.  The Nike Hyperdunk 2012 (also known as the Nike Lunar Hyperdunk 2012) will make a big splash at the London Summer Olympics, this pair revealing a Lunarlon foam cushioning system and the same kind of exteriorized Flywire that typified the mysterious LeBron James’ sample that made some waves when it popped up a few months back.  It looks like LeBron and some other USAB stars may be moving over to this model this summer for Olympic play, a passing of the torch from Kobe Bryant who spearheaded the OG Hyperdunk’s initial marketing campaign; which other Nike athletes will be wearing this look in London?  Click through to see more angles of this intriguing new design and stick with Sneaker News for more on the Nike Hyperdunk 2012 and other upcoming USAB footwear.

LeBron Zoom Soldier VI

The Nike “Soldier” line was originally installed as a lower priced, LeBron James-team focused shoe, but it’s always been more personal than that. Up to the initiation of the LeBron VII P.S. two years ago, Bron has used the platform of the playoffs to promote that year’s Solider shoe. With signature level product line segmentations covering both regular and post season now, we likely won’t see LeBron wearing the newest Zoom Soldier VI on NBA hardwood in this Lockout-shortened season. But will it make the trek to London to become part of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games?

Here’s a first look at two Fall 2012 colorways in the Nike Zoom Soldier VI:
- White/University Red 525015-101
- Wolf Grey/Cool Grey-Black 525015-002
The Zoom Soldier VI takes some design cues from the flagship LeBron 9, most prominently in the shape and design of the outsole and an extension of the Hyperfuse composite construction into the team-slanted line.
Two giant sized logos leave no room for interpretation on whos team exactly you’re playing for, with LeBron’s new-this-season, L-Crown-J personal logo wrapping the midfoot support strap and wreathing the lateral forefoot.
If you’re thinking typical “team” pricing on this shoe though, think again. The Zoom Soldier VI follows the elevated price points of its bigger bro LeBron 9 and the rest of Nike Basketball‘s product offerings into next year with a raised 120€ sticker.
